Dear Students and Parents,
Now that the year is winding now, I wanted to thank you for your support and dedication to your child's progress. As you may have heard the FCAT Writes test scores were published and the scores for the entire district were not too good. There has been much controversy regarding the the validity of the scoring and the changes made to skew the results. All I can say about that is that I was committed to work very hard with your children and it is reflective in their scores. Although the state wanted a higher score to count as the passing score at first, the children still performed beautifully and you should be very proud of them, in spite of all the controversies.
On this same note, I want to inform you of a few resources available for parents through the Dept. of Education that may help you learn more regarding your child's future education. Did you know that there is a Parent Portal? Log on to: http://www.floridapathtosuccess.org/ to read about and ask questions about the FCAT and the up coming Common Core Standards that we will soon adapt. In addition, there is an Email that you can send your questions for more specific answers. Email: Justforparents@fldoe.org I hope that these are helpful to you as you learn more about the high-stakes testing and how you can understand the outcomes better.
Lastly, please remind the students that although we are very close to the summer recess, school is still not over. There is still lots of learning that needs to happen before we are officially done for the year. For all the skills still being covered log on to LiveText.
